Networking Events' Seminar Topics

Seminar: Dementia until a cure is found
Presenter - Sally Ferris
Dementia is a growing social issue for both families and UK society. There are finally some promising treatments becoming available but they are unlikely to prevent or treat all the different dementias. In the meantime, how does society meet the demands that this disabling condition brings. Our older people deserve good quality support services to give life value and purpose. And their families desperately need more information, guidance and reliable services so that their own lives do not fall apart. It might be you who is already impacted by dementia, either now or in the future. So lets consider what we want/need and the scale of the challenge for charities such as Together Dementia Support.

? What do we mean by dementia and Alzheimers disease

? UK statistics for dementia prevalence

? Current dementia research

? What do people with dementia need want

? What do families need

? What are Govt plans for people affected by dementia

? What does TDS do

Sally Ferris founded Together Dementia Support 10 years ago as she had learnt, from her studies and own work in the NHS, Social Services and the voluntary sector, that there was no service offering support in Manchester. The charity has grown slowly but steadily, despite the funding challenges in this sector. Sally is fascinated by dementia and how it affects people and is passionate that better provision is urgently needed.

When she is not working, and visiting her own elderly parents down south or her adult children further north, Sally likes to play badminton, grow flowers and get out into the countryside.

What our
members and
visitors say...

I have been a Network attender of many Networks over a number of years and have to say I thoroughly enjoy the Business Network North West – South Manchester meetings which Win and Simon run. They are full of good people and there are lots of laughs! However, there is business done between the members. I thoroughly recommend this Network as a means of building business and congenial meetings with successful business people.

Not only does Business Network make sense financially, it's a huge asset to business owner/managers and the 'lonely at the top' syndrome. There's a huge wealth of knowledge and regional business information within the South Manchester branch, high quality businesses and a tangible community feel about the whole group. If I need a contact or expert advice, or if I'm struggling with something, there?s always someone I can call and get a result. When you're running your own business, being able to access that support and 'business intelligence' is invaluable. So for me, South Manchester Business Network isn't just a professional networking group; it's a natural extension of my own business.
